For a Christmas gift for his sister last year, Allen asked Sarah to help him convert a panorama of a Louisville, KY neighborhood into a large-scale illustration. The final printed image was about 6 feet long.

For Christmas 2010, Sarah spent several months scanning old, damaged family photos, digitally bringing them back to life, and assembling nearly 2000 of them into a large format, custom-designed three-volume photo album for her family.

Sarah and Allen's early days together

Early Days

Allen and Sarah dated long distance, communicating solely through email, for almost a year before they met face-to-face. During that time, they had gotten to know each other extremely personally, but were missing some pretty basic information: when Allen first saw Sarah his first thought was “Huh. You’re taller than I expected.” Through their digital courtship they found ways to share themselves with each other by way of some creative art projects.

When Allen wanted to try showing his photography in the New Zealand Art Show, his application to the show involved building a new portfolio website for himself. With Sarah helping him with the design, he came up with an experimental site that not only showcases some of his favorite photos, but presents them in a colorful, interesting way that highlights his patterns and habits as a photographer.

5 Years In New Zealand

We both lived in New Zealand for just over 5 years, working as visual effects artists at Weta Digital and trying to adventure around the country as much as possible while we weren’t working long hours on films like King Kong and Avatar.
